港灣論壇翻譯

世界港灣城市於高雄齊聚「譯」堂，

正是促成高雄迎接國際化的不二法門。

   　 有港都之稱的高雄，自古以來，始終扮演著持續向海外通商的港口城市。當地的英國領事館，即是殖民時代留下的一處遺址。即可看出在清領時期，外國勢力對有重大地理意義的此處有龐大的野心。特別是鴉片戰爭後的後續影響，英國軍隊欲在高雄進行物資貿易並設立官邸。可見高雄主宰資源和戰略位置的重要性。

    　一座港灣城市之所以能有絕佳的基礎建設與經濟發展，正是由於先天的優越據點，特別是在國際航線會經過的位置上。有鑑於此，在21世紀的今天，高雄市政府意識到港灣應當舉辦論壇，以便於和國際接軌。與其他海外城市如大阪、上海、新加坡等進行經貿交流，創造永續生活環境，並且尋找新產業方契機，是高雄迎接國際化的不二法門。因此才促成高雄展覽館和亞洲新灣區等重大建設。以下列舉三段翻譯例子來說明：   

原文1

「2018年全球港灣城市論壇」期許延續2016年關注港灣城市議題的熱度，再次邀約世界港灣城市在高雄齊聚一堂，進行專業的交流互動及經驗傳承，深化國際港灣城市的關係，凝聚國際間合作共識，共同促進港灣城市產業的轉型與都市的發展。

建構具有前瞻性及延續性的國際論壇，期待全球港灣城市論壇成為未來在不同港灣城市定期舉辦之國際專業活動，持續累積經貿合作的能量，共創豐富可期的經濟利益。

    “2018 Global Harbor City Forum” is expected to continuously focus on (註一) the hot issues of global harbor cities in 2016. This time we invite the harbor cities all over the world to gather in Kaohsiung again to facilitate (註二) professional communication and interaction as well as carrying out (註三) the inheritance of experience, to deepen the relationship among the international harbor cities, to establish the consensus of international cooperation and to jointly promote the industrial transformation and urban development of harbor cities.

     To construct the international forum with perspective (註四) and continuity, we are looking forward to holding (註五) international professional events regularly in various harbor cities in the future so that we can persistently accumulate the power of cooperation of economy to create jointly rich, promising and prosperous win-win economic benefits.

註一：一般對於一件事情的關注也就是焦點的所在，英文可以用主動的focus on來表示比較恰當。

注二：第二句的facilitate表示，因進行一切溝通和互動，使用“促進” 較有活化的意味。

註三： 英文的carrying out有表示執行或進行某個計劃。

註四：｢前瞻性」有些譯者可能會譯成prospective(展望)，其實英文應該譯為perspective才正確，。

註五：表示正渴望某事未來能夠發生用be looking forward to。

全球港灣城市論壇做為一國際級會議場合，藉由海外與會者之來訪參與，亦成為在地產業與全球連結合作的重要平台。

會議期間有規劃展覽會與商洽會，透過媒合方式，協助目標產業拓展海外商機，提昇論壇經濟效益。

    As (註一) an international conference of Global Harbor City Forum, it will become a vital platform for the local industry to get connected with (註二)the global through overseas p articipants’ visit and participation.

   During the conference, we hold exhibitions and business meetings to help targeted industries expand overseas business opportunities and promote economic benefits via matching.

註一：As +N(身分或職務)…，的句型用法可以表示｢做為…或身為…」的意思。

註二：｢與…連結」英文用“get connected with”表示有相互交流之意，而不是只是連結而已。

提供全球港灣城市首長探討共同議題的交流平台，除藉此交換城市轉型的治理經驗外，亦可凝聚城際間實質經貿交流合作，共創豐盛的經濟交流互動下的果實。

     As providing (註一) an exchanging platform for discussion on common issues for leaders of harbor city from all over the world, we not only exchange experience in governing the city transformation, but also enhance the inter-city cooperation and communication for substantial economy and trade (註二) in order to create the achievement of a flourishing economic exchange and interaction.

A total of 31 City representatives were present.

註一：雖然中文並沒有很明確表明句子的主詞，但是英文必須要有明確的主詞，所以用第一人稱”we”當主詞可以表示此次高雄市為主辦單位，並可以傳達主辦單位的主動意念！

註二：中文的｢實質經貿」，英文應該是 “substantial economy and trade”。有些譯者譯成substantive economy，雖然兩字”substantial”和”substantive” 都可表示「本質的，實質的」，但兩者有一定的區別：前者一般用在真實的，重要的，實體的等意義。後者主要用在一些特種情況上：在議會程序中，substantive motion（實質性的動議）是指用適當的方式清楚地處理某個議題。

　　在進行中翻英時，縱使原本缺少中文主詞，也應思考完整句子加入主詞會如何體現在英語句子中。畢竟英語本身就是在正式文體中要求主語必須存在的語言，再來，形容詞和名詞的分類也是譯文的另一大重點，為了避免外國人士一臉疑惑的狀況，這也是不可忽視的細節之一。總之，由於會展翻譯主要是以口譯為主，筆譯為輔，而且會需要一些會展方面的專有名詞，因此譯者在翻譯時，需多注意會展專有名詞的運用，如此才能讓與會的專業會展人士覺得翻譯文案所呈現出來的翻譯文字內容夠水準，也才能顯示出翻譯社的專業度，也更能幫助主辦單位表現出規劃活動的專業能力與實際的執行力，並提高台灣的國際能見度。
